The Atlantic Region launched its partnership with Girltrek in 2019 and since that time, we have been promoting the healthy benefits of walking. Recently, GirlTrek sent out a letter regarding the suspension of GirlTrek programming until we can safely get back to walking. However, social distancing and “sheltering in place” do not mean that we should let our physical and mental health fall by the wayside.

Here is the 10-point Plan for Self-Care:

1. All official walking programs are on hold: Double down on 30 minutes a day of self-care and let’s take our stress protest revolution inside. Walk inside, take mental stress protest breaks and be kind to yourself. Make sure to limit extra walks to the fridge, get fresh air and sunshine as often as you can and fellowship with your Sorors via any of the various platforms we have at our fingertips to laugh and connect.

2. GirlTrek’s 100 Radical Ideas of Self Care: These ideas are to inspire us to laugh, think, and hope each day so we can remain healthy and not fall and become a statistic to the most common causes of premature death in our community.

3. GirtlTrek's Emergency Financial Support: If you are in need and are a Trekker, GirlTrek has limited means to help 3-5 trekkers per week. Apply here at the link below – https://girltrek.wufoo.com/forms/mvqs3lk0vrga86/?mc_cid=fa5e688e98&mc_eid=8edc60a623

4. GirlTrek Support Line: If you feel overwhelmed, are stressed out, and/or want tips on indoor activities and stress relievers, the GirlTrek Support Line operates 9am-9pm EST 7 days a week! Call 855-GRL-TREK

5. This year’s Stress Protest is canceled! If you have registered full refunds will be made.

6. Please do NOT host any treks in the name of GirlTrek. You can however host GIRLTREK ZOOM parties gatherings, and book clubs (maybe a fitness or self-help book). Look out for GirlTrek virtual national tours by our leaders. You can host an event for your chapter or area. If interested, please let me know.

7. GirlTrek Store: The store is CLOSED until further notice.

8. Wage-Earning Wellness Training: GirlTrek has training for you through their GirlTrek-U. If you are interested in certifying as fitness instructors, outdoor hike leaders, mental health first aid instructors, nutritional coaches and local advocates in partnership with the American Council on Exercise (ACE), The Sierra Club, Stanford University's School of Public Health and others, please contact amber@girltrek.org.

9. Volunteer Opportunities: If you are a social worker, certified mental first aid responder, prayer warrior, wellness teacher or donor and you'd like to volunteer or support these efforts, please contact giveback@girltrek.org. You can also apply here using the link below: https://girltrek.wufoo.com/forms/m1tha6me0cz8eij/?mc_cid=fa5e688e98&mc_eid=8edc60a623

10. Stay connected with GirlTrek leaders on IG @morgantreks and @vanessatreks and join each week for

a. Monday Morning Prayer and Meditation 9am EST

And here’s three healthy tips from our Atlantic Region Zeta’s Have Health Coordinator, Aliya F. Browne:

1. EXERCISE- It could be walking around your neighborhoods, walking up and down the steps in your apartment complex. Doing a YOUTUBE video (I love PopSugar Fitness) whatever it is - STAY ACTIVE. The AHA recommends 30 minutes of exercise 5 days per week to reduce your risks.

2. TAKE A TIME OUT- Meditation, reading a book, a bubble bath - Quiet time is essential. What works best for you? It could be a dance party in your bathroom. Quiet time works great for our children as well. Consider taking a 5-10-minute time of meditation with your children during the day. Participating in YOGA sessions online via YouTube also can be uplifting to your spirits.

3. SPIRITUAL FITNESS- If at any time we need to strengthen our faith it is NOW. Remember our Centennial prayer call the 16th of every month at 7:20 pm.
